Current trends in high performance computing (HPC) are moving towards the use of graphics processing units (GPUs) to achieve speed-ups for linear algebra matrix operations in CAE software. GPUs have been developed exclusively for computational tasks as massively-parallel co-processors to x86 CPUs, and provide new HPC opportunities for ANSYS 15.0 software. This talk will examine the GPU benefits in the application of ANSYS Fluent for a selection of automotive models relevant in size and conditions to current industry-scale practice. A rapid ANSYS Fluent simulation capability from the use of GPUs has the potential to transform current procedures in engineering analysis and design optimization.
