Variable Displacement Oil Pumps represent a new generation of oil pump used in Automotive applications. Their purpose is the power absorption saving. Several control systems of pump capacity are implemented to guarantee the pressure engine specification and in the meantime the reduction of power absorption to reduce exhaust gas emission in the omologation cycles. Due to the current design complexity, different issues can occur in engine test but also in bench tests. In this paper a new approach to the wear analysis is shown. Particularly, a remarkable wear sometimes occurs in the pump inlet side. By the implementation of a dedicated internal force time history an effective modeling of the failure will be presented in this current paper.
